Boomtown Swingalings

Return to Previous Page

A select group of young aficionados from London’s thriving jazz and swing scene, The Boomtown Swingalings perform a very exciting blend of popular music from the golden age of Broadway musicals and the silver screen of Hollywood, perfect for a 1920s, 1930s or 1940s styled event.

“Suavely dressed in vintage gear, The Boomtown Swingalings are the perfect choice to recreate the glamorous atmosphere of the iconic swing era at your vintage themed event…”

The band’s melodious vocals, combined with highly-developed, stylish instrumental musicianship and superbly augmented by a solid repertoire of classic horn arrangements, never fail to get everyone up on their feet dancing – generating a pitch-perfect party vibe, whatever the occasion.

Their featured vocalist draws from a rich tradition of jazz singers, his smooth style influenced by Frank Sinatra, Chet Baker and Billie Holiday. And if you can’t find your favourite swing number in the repertoire list, chances are the band will know it – or could learn it at the drop of a hat!

The line-up of vocalist, clarinet/sax and trumpet, plus rhythm section of double-bass, piano and drums, is compact enough to fit most venues, but creates enough swinging energy to bring the house down. To sustain a real party ambience, the whole six-piece band is recommended to deliver the full effect. However, a trio or quartet (instrumental only or including vocals) is also available for a more mellow, intimate atmosphere.

The band’s repertoire includes classic hits as played by Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong, as well as songs from the iconic Broadway and Hollywood musicals in the notorious ‘Ratpack’ style made internationally famous by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

The Boomtown Swingalings will revitalise the romance and glamour of yesteryear, effortlessly transporting you back to the Golden Age of Jazz.

I heard the Boomtown Swingalings (which I think is a crap name)at Kettner’s in Soho in June 2012, and they have the crispest ’30s sound I have ever heard from a swing band. Their version of Rockin’ Rhythm sounded better than the original record, with which, as a dancer, I am well familiar. When I heard them playing I could not believe my ears. I thought this must be an original recording, yet as I looked to the stage, there they were, playing it. For a six-piece their sound was remarkably full. Clever and skilful young musicians. With the right promotion they could be the next big thing.

Once again thank you for your excellent performance at our wedding, the guests kept going on about how brilliant you guys were, and your final song into the last dance was epic.
