Authentic arrangements and a craftsmanlike approach to details of their chosen musical idiom are the hallmarks of Five Star Swing. When this super-tight, tasty octet ‘steps out in style’, it’s virtually as if Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra and Shirley Bassey have come to life before your eyes.
“Five Star Swing will delight you with a slick presentation of classic American Razzmatazz at its very best…”
Bandleader Chris Smith brings a wealth of performance experience to Five Star Swing. As a pianist and trumpeter he has appeared on BBC Breakfast TV, Top Of The Pops and The Royal Variety Show, and has played at many prestigious venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club.
Include classy vocals from both Chris and Simone, and this ensemble has all that’s needed to transport you back into that sizzling era of the Swing Jazz Greats. All of the Glenn Miller classics are in the repertoire, together with Ratpack favourites, contemporary standards and much, much more. It’s not surprising Five Star Swing is recognised as one of the most versatile and accomplished Jazz and Swing bands in the UK!
Five Star Swing will arrive dressed to suit the event, fully-equipped with a high-quality PA system which is readily adaptable for venues of any size. For smaller parties, the band can also offer five or six-piece options. As to the full line-up, with five horns in the frontline there’s plenty of scope for these guys to really rip – Five Star Swing will delight you with a slick presentation of classic American Razzmatazz at its very best.

Berkhamstead –
I just wanted to write to thank Five Star Swing for playing at our “1940’s night”. You interpreted the mood of the event perfectly and helped maintain the atmosphere right to the end. Hopefully we’ll have the opportunity to work with you again in the future.
Bryan Roth –
I thoroughly enjoyed the concert tonight. It was the best evening we have had for many years. You all took my wife and me down memory lane and made us feel like teenagers again.
Alexander –
I was sceptical at first that they could come up with the goods with only 5 players, but WOW did they deliver!!! The controlled, tight and virtuosic ensemble playing was without peer. Great arrangements from Chris Smith, the whole band showed its multifarious diversity in every swinging number… and where did Stephen Davies learn to do all that stuff?! I commend them to all!
Richard Roberts –
Just seen the band at The Municipal Hall Colne and what a great show from a very talented group of musicians – well done and thanks for a great night out.
