Something Blue is a duo offering a surprisingly wide and popular repertoire. Both classically-trained musicians, Elly plays flute (and piano) while Tessa adds saxophone (and piano) to their partnership. The ability of each musician to alternate between her principal topline melody instrument and an accompanimental piano role enables these two to incorporate the perfect combination of traditional and more modern styles of repertoire.
From Bach to Bacharach, Beethoven to Bebop or Debussy to De Blues – Elly and Tessa confidently perform selected examples from all these diverse musical genres and styles, and plenty more besides. And as if this versatility were not enough, it’s all beautifully presented with superb musicality and flair. If you like, you can even compile a bespoke personalised playlist, choosing a programme of specific pieces from Something Blue’s extensive repertoire – they’ll be delighted to perform your favourites. Amplification is generally only needed if they bring an electric piano.
